Ray Biggs

Throughout my life, football has been a major force that has positively influenced me.

From my humble beginnings being raised on a farm outside Walla Walla, Washington to my career as a player, college coach, and NFL scout, football has instilled and strengthened values of teamwork, friendship, competitiveness, and dedication into my life.
From my introduction to football in the 7th grade and throughout my career, I have had excellent coaches, mentors, and players who have taught me invaluable life lessons.

In high school, I played both offensive and defensive tackle and served as a Captain my senior year. We were undefeated and won the conference.

After high school I accepted a football scholarship at Columbia Basin College. I again started as a defensive tackle. We were very successful both years in tying for the conference championship the first year and winning it the second year with an undefeated season.

After my sophomore year I accepted a football scholarship to Montana State University. As a starting defensive tackle in 1966 and 1967, our team won the Big Sky Conference Championship both years.

After graduation from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in Business, I began my coaching career at Walla Walla Community College as an assistant football coach.

After three years I accepted an opportunity to coach as a graduate assistant at Colorado State University.

After graduation with a master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, I became an assistant head football coach at Colorado Mesa University as well as the director of housing. The highlight of that experience was playing for the NAIA national championship in 1982.

In 1983 I became the Assistant Head  football coach and Assistant Dean of Students at Yakima Valley College.

In 1989 I joined National Football Scouting (NFS), an NFL Scouting Combine organization. After five years with NFS, I joined the Houston Oilers scouting staff who later became the Tennessee Titans. I spent 17 years with the organization, primarily scouting the western United States with a short stint covering the northeast. The highlight was when the Titans played in the 2000 Super Bowl.

After my retirement in 2011 I continued, for 8 years, to assist in running the annual NFS Invitational Camp in Indianapolis for NFL draft eligible players.

Football has been very rewarding throughout my career as player, coach, scout, and administrator. I feel that I have positively influenced many athletes’ and students’ lives in the process as evidenced by my enduring relationships with former players, coaches, and scouts.
